Ten years ago we used to say that we lived in a fast food instant gratification country. Now things are much worse. People really only consume information that they can get instantly on the internet.
If maturity is the ability to deal with frustrated desire alone as Fritz Pearls stated, then the internet age has all but robbed our minds of the ability to wait. Today I would task you with putting yourself in a situation where you have to wait and do nothing at all for just 5 minutes. During that time watch no TV and listen to no music. Talk to nobody and just sit. Find out exactly how your patience is affected by the world changing around you.
Remember that you are supposed to go through life at a pace that you can actually process. The learning is in the gaps between thoughts and not in the moments of effort.
